An article in my professional alma mater today touts the motivation for -- and glories of -- cycling to work. While my cycling activity has picked up since late last year, strapping into toe clips daily for 70 miles each way is never going to happen -- not even once in a while. I'll just continue drooling with envy anytime I see a bicycle commuter.
Another facet of the article, though, is the increased number of people carpooling.
I remain undaunted. Who needs Big Brother to set up a carpool, anyway?
Here's an open casting call for any Cape Codders heading to the Route 128 belt. Want to share a ride? I work right off of the highway in Waltham. Even if it's only a couple of days a week, I'm game. I am currently leaving my house in Sandwich at 8 a.m., aiming for a 9:30 arrival time at the office. I head home at 6 p.m., unless a family or other event requires earlier departure. That said, I can be somewhat flexible schedule-wise.
Be forewarned: I may blog about the experience from time to time. We'll work out the boundaries and comfort zone of that, though, once we make each other's acquaintance.

More employers are encouraging their workers to car pool, according to figures from MassRIDES, a program that matches commuters to carpools. On the Cape and Islands, the number of employers who have signed up to participate in the program has doubled in the past year, according to MassRIDES's local outreach coordinator, Catherine King.Intrigued, I hopped on over to MassRIDES (great domain, by the way: commute.com), to see what I could find. After clicking on the link for the Ridematch Registration form, I got the following:
We are sorry for the inconvenience, but Online Ridematching is currently unavailable. Please call the MassRIDES Customer Service team for assistance in adding your profile manually. Customer Service can be reached at 1.888.426.6688. Thank you for your patienceCurses. Foiled again!
