Going slow in the wide-open fast lane drives me nuts

Dear Ms. North Carolina, driving the Jeep Cherokee on Route 128 near the MassPike around 9 this morning,

When there is no traffic on Route 128 on a school-vacation Friday morning, we everyday drivers like to be rewarded for our perseverance and for not mailing it in on such a beautiful morning. We enjoy the wide-open spaces, the lack of congestion at the major thoroughfares, and the ability to shave a half hour off the ordinary commute. Our lead feet want to feel the floor.

So why, oh why, must you drive 50 mph in the left lane?

And when a half dozen cars pass you on the right, and I am flashing my high beams at you while the driver next to me is honking like a crazed goose, why do you not get the hint?

Get over to the right, dear out-of-town drivers. Go sight-see over there. Have a wonderful drive, if that's your thing. Please, oh please, stay out of the left lane!
